Welcome to The Journey Home Therapy & Consulting Services.

I’m Dr. Katherine (Katie) Crawford, a licensed clinical social worker with over 15 years of experience in behavioral health, higher education, and trauma-informed consulting. I hold a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Georgia, a Master of Social Work, and a B.S. in Psychology from Kennesaw State University.

Background & Experience

My career has blended academic leadership, direct clinical work, and organizational consulting. I’ve served as faculty at both the University of Georgia and Auburn University, where I designed and taught courses on trauma-informed practice, advanced clinical methods, and program evaluation.

In my clinical work, I’ve supported clients navigating medical concerns, housing instability, incarceration, caregiving roles, and developmental differences. Many people come to therapy with me when they’re feeling anxious or depressed, overwhelmed by stress, working through trauma, navigating relationship struggles, coping with burnout, dealing with substance use, or adjusting to major life transitions. We clarify what feels most urgent and develop practical strategies for healing and growth.

Beyond individual therapy, I’ve also provided professional trainings, program evaluations, and consultation across the mental health, criminal justice, and youth service sectors.

Therapy Services

In sessions, I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-informed approaches, with an emphasis on how early attachment experiences shape our patterns.

I see patterns of thinking, behavior, and attachment not as flaws, but as survival strategies that once served a purpose and helped us get our needs met. When those strategies no longer help us, therapy offers a way to notice them, gently shift them, and create new pathways forward.

Healing isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about reconnecting with who you’ve always been. My approach is warm, collaborative, strengths-oriented, and grounded in research. Together, we simplify the process, focus on what matters most, and build skills to navigate distress with clarity, resilience, and self-compassion.

Organizational Consulting & Training

In addition to therapy, I collaborate with organizations to strengthen programs, implement trauma-informed systems, and improve workplace culture. Drawing on my background as both a professor and published program evaluator, I focus on translating research into practical, sustainable strategies that work in real-world settings.

My Commitment

Whether supporting clients in therapy or organizations through consulting, my mission is the same: to provide practical, compassionate, trauma-informed, and strengths-oriented support that helps you find your way forward.

Because the way home isn’t a destination—it’s a return to yourself.
